Amberwood Nursing Home
Facilities
Amberwood has been operating as a Nursing Home for over 30 years. The Home is within a mile of Exmouth train station and is on the main bus route with a stop outside our Home, making it very convenient for staff, residents and visitors.
The Home has a warm, friendly, relaxed atmosphere and currently cares for residents with nursing care needs. The building stands in its own extensive grounds, with a well tended private garden. The garden provides places to sit and relax in the fresh air. Some of our residents help with planting of seeds and seedlings in pots and containers for decorating the patios. Fresh flowers cut from our own borders are often displayed in residents’ private rooms and in the communal areas.
Most of the bedrooms are single occupancy and all are wheelchair accessible. All of the bedrooms are comfortable and homely and residents are encouraged to furnish and decorate them according to their individual tastes. All have a call bell and their own wash-hand basin; some are also en-suite. All rooms have access to free wifi. Several staff members’ pets are regular visitors to the Home and relatives are encouraged to bring their pets to enhance the quality of life for residents.
Medical Care
Amberwood provides 24 hour care by qualified nurses, supervised by Sarah Honeybul, the Manager. The Nurses are supported by a team of trained Care Assistants, who have all completed the Health and Social Care Diploma level 2, 3, 4 and 5. Medication may be kept by residents themselves if desired, or may be dispensed by the qualified nursing staff; the Home works closely with all members of the primary healthcare team. GP’s, district nurses, acute specialists, chiropodists, dentists and opticians all make visits to the Home if needed.
Catering
Favourite foods are an important part of our pre-admission process. From roast beef to paella to Indian or Chinese, a great variety of dishes are available within a balanced, nutritional and varied diet. Meals may be taken in the sitting room, the dining room or in the Resident’s own room. Where appropriate, wine or sherry may be served at mealtimes. Tea, coffee, fruit juices, cordials, light snacks and fruit are available throughout the day.
Activities
A number of activities take place at Amberwood, focused, wherever possible, on each resident’s specific interests. Our assessment and admissions procedure includes details of residents’ hobbies and interests that can be continued when they are in our care. Subject to our assessment, residents are welcome to bring their pets.
After admission, our Enabler reviews residents’ involvement in activities. Where appropriate, residents’ families can get involved in these reviews. Our programme can be amended or expanded at very short notice for individual residents’ changing needs.
Activities can take place on a group or individual basis.
All group activities are posted monthly on the notice boards in the main entrance. Activities regularly provided include:

Amberwood is a short walk from the river Exe estuary where you can take a pleasant and enjoyable stroll to Exmouth town centre for a drink or afternoon tea.
Falls
Following our own research, which has been focused on particular specialities not provided by other care homes, we have developed a detailed set of policies and procedures for the prevention of falls. This has been made possible by a specific training programme for our staff. We believe the acquired expertise of our staff makes our Home very safe and secure environment for all our residents.
Visitors
Visits from family and friends are encouraged. With a little notice it is possible for visitors to come and have meals with their relatives, either on their own or as a family occasion.
